Persekutor was presented as the most awesome and trve underground black metal possible. Despite a pretty cool riff on "The Twitching Hour," I'm not convinced it isn't a practical joke from Brendon Small.
Barbelith: Untitled 7" (2014)

Barbelith strikes a nice balance with one of the stronger blends of black metal and shoegaze with tortured vocals. I almost wanted to guess they were from San Francisco, but that other influence I hear must be DC-area hardcore.
Fragile Branch
Being: II: Nyx (2013)

Marginally, Being is a black metal band, but most of their 19 minutes is spent in a dark ballad kind of mood with passable clean vocals. Still, it isn't bad.
